In the Heart of Listowel - A Heritage Town
Town of many talents; John B. Keane, Bryan McMahon, Brendan Kennelly, Maurice Walsh – this part of North Kerry has given the world an outpouring of great writers. Listowel’s annual Writers’ Week is part celebration of that gift.
But the town can play with more than words: the native love of sport and recreation is widely in evidence. There are two annual horse-racing festivals; the River Feale offers angling of rare quality; lovely golf course adjoins of the splendid Garden of Europe; there is also a vibrant traditional music scene.
As for municipal style, there is strong long tradition of architecture, manifest in the town’s many fine edifices and in the great variety of architectural adornment.
